Introducing “Leaza in Denver”, our newest featured blog. DenverSpark encourages you to browse Leaza’s profile to learn more about her and “Leaza in Denver”, our latest featured blogger of the week.

Name:  Leaza in Denver

Blog URL: www.myflirty30s.com

Where you live:  Denver, CO

How long have you been blogging? I started blogging two years ago after my close friends insisted I start a blog about my unique life! I journaled on and off for years, but ultimately felt I could share my humorous insights and opinions with more people through blogging.

What blogging platform do you use?  WordPress

Do you blog for business? for pleasure?  I blog for pleasure, although I’m starting to pick up freelance opportunities through myflirty30s.com.  I began blogging as a way to capture my “oh-my goodness” experiences as a single girl in her 30s.  However, my topics are universal.  I blog about friendship, heartache, family, and of course — relationships!  I enjoy swan-diving head first – discussing the juicy discrepancies between men and women. I could write volumes on Wikipedia about what men do incoherently wrong (and right) on a constant basis. And ladies, I can definitely dish what we must quit doing — before Singledom gives us our own zip code.  I’m also considering turning my blog into a play…it’s a work in progress but I’m very hopeful!

How does your blog help the local blogging community?  I realize that www.myflirty30s.com is more a “niche” blog….marketed to women, more than men.  However, I hope everyone gets a good laugh.  I aim to reach female readers so they “know they’re not alone” in their own experiences.  Being single can be tough — whether you’re a man or a woman.  Why not take all those crazy, awkward, memorable, horrific, and wonderful moments and turn them into funny blog posts?  After all, truth is stranger than fiction.  I’ve had readers email me saying they laughed out loud reading my blog.  That’s the best compliment in the world.

What are your hobbies and interests?  Like many Colorado gals, I love hiking, snow skiing, walking my dog, spending time outdoors, and exploring all the funky restaurants and shops in Denver.  However, I’m also addicted to country music, coffee with real cream and sugar, my satellite radio, the arts, and of course…the mountains!  Favorite places around Denver include South Broadway, Wash Park, and LoHi.

What do you do when you are not writing online?  I work as a producer/writer for a Denver broadcast production company.  I help create series for cable networks like HGTV, DIY, and The Food Network.  I also recently bought a condo in the historic Baker neighborhood, so I’m busy renovating and decorating.  Between working, my hobbies, the blog, and attempting to date, I barely have time to sleep!

Darla Michelsen ~ Scooter Girl Media

February 21, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

DenverSpark.com welcomes Darla Michelsen, our newest featured blogger. We invite you to browse Darla’s profile to learn more about her and “Scooter Girl Media”, our featured blog of the week.

Name: Darla Michelsen

Company: Scooter Girl Media

Blog URL: www.scootergirlinthecityblog.com

Where you live: I live in Denver, CO.

How long have you been blogging?  I have been blogging for over 5 years.

What blogging platform do you use?  I use Typepad and love it! I also use WordPress for other blogging but Typepad is my all time favorite, the typepad community is great and super supportive and I’ve learned so much from the techies and they are “johnny on the spot” when it comes to response time.

Do you blog for business? for pleasure?  I blog for both business and pleasure! My scooter girl in the city blog started about 5 years ago as a personal blog after getting my first scooter, now it has grown and I do promote small local businesses on the blog.  Part of the scooter girl blog is just sharing all the great Denver spots to eat and play!!  I blog for business with my company Scooter Girl Media where I create business blogs for all types of business from real estate to tattoo shops to Insurance, and I also do social media management with social networks like Facebook and twitter and my new favorite Pinterest.

How does your blog help the local blogging community?  How does my blog promote the blogging community!  Well I feel like my blog reaches out in many ways to fellow bloggers as a reader and also in promotion of other blogs, I’m big on letting people know if there is a new blog or content that would appeal to them.  I also like sharing others posts and links.  My readers are always wanting to know who I follow or what blogs I read and so I’m going to add a blog roll very soon.  I think most bloggers follow others who blog and also share what they love about the content with readers and friends.  As far as the general community… part of the reason I started my blog was to highlight new small businesses and bring them attention and help them start a following or community of their own.

What are your hobbies and interests?  My hobbies?  Need you ask? SCOOTERS SCOOTERS and more SCOOTERS!!! I also host scooter events and rides and will be putting on my first Scooter Girl rally in August 2012. I had my first 9 news story last year on one of my all girl shopping and scooting rides.  I also love the city and going out to new places so I can write about them… and I love being with my two Chinese Crested dogs Jackson and ChaCha Brown.

What do you do when you are not writing online?  What do I do when I’m not writing?  I like to be with my friends and I also love Real Estate.

Jen McLellan ~ Plus Size Mommy Memoirs

Plus Size Birth

DenverSpark.com is pleased to introduce Jen McLellan, our latest featured blogger. We welcome you to review Jen’s profile to learn more about her and “Plus Size Mommy Memoirs”, our featured blog of the week.

Name:  Jen McLellan – Plus Size Mommy Memoirs

Your company:  Plus Size Birth

Blog URL:  www.plussizebirth.com/blog/psmmblog

Where you live: Arvada, Colorado

How long have you been blogging?  I’m a newbie and have only been blogging since April of 2011.

What blogging platform do you use?  I started off with Blogger when I was just writing about my pregnancy experience as a plus size woman.  I switched to WordPress when I saw a need to expand my blog into a website to include resources on how to have a healthy pregnancy and beyond as a woman of size.

Do you blog for business? for pleasure?  Blogging has become more of a passion than a pleasure.  When I found out I was pregnant I turned to my family and then the internet for guidance.  As a plus size woman I was unexpectedly faced with a barrage of negativity online.  Diet, exercise, and the support of a compassionate healthcare team seemed like the logical way to combat the increased risk factors I faced.  In the end I had a very healthy pregnancy and beautiful natural childbirth at Denver Health hospital under the care of a doula and midwife.  My pregnancy and birth experience taught me my imperfect body wasn’t broken – it was AMAZING!  I wanted to share my experience and provide positive resources for plus size women before, during, and after childbirth.  After I settled into “Mommy Land” I started writing and was amazed how quickly people came forward in support of the work I was doing.  Women started sharing incredible stories from empowering home births to heartbreaking accounts of being pushed into medical interventions they didn’t want, including c-sections, just because of their weight.  After hearing those stories blogging became a passion!

How does your blog help the local blogging community?  I’ve been lucky enough to meet some very influential women within the Denver birth community; many of whom are bloggers.  My blog and website has become a resource for some of their clients.  I often have people write guest posts and have featured local bloggers and business owners who provide resources to plus size women.

What are your hobbies and interests?  I’m a new mother and a blogger – I don’t have time to shave my legs let alone have hobbies. Though I can honestly say I wouldn’t want it any other way.

What do you do when you are not writing online?  I’m a full-time employee for a non-profit that advocates for choice and care at the end of life.  So you could say I do death by day and birth by night – it’s an interesting dichotomy.  I can also be found chasing after a boisterous 16 month old who keeps life very entertaining for my husband and I.

Name: Tiffany

Blog URL:  www.wanderingairstream.com

Where you live: Edgewater, CO

How long have you been blogging? One year

What blogging platform do you use? Wordpress

Do you blog for business? for pleasure?  Both, It is a for-profit blog available for sponsors/advertisers, as well as including my work as a Life Coach for the past 14 years, helping people create new perspectives and reach toward more (sustained) happiness. I share tips & ideas and answer reader questions via a weekly column called Dear Ask Me.. similar to a “Dear Abby” style column. My business also includes personal/closet make-overs and home design, as coaching is often as much about the outside as the inside. When agreeable I share client stories via the columns Ask Me: What to Wear, and Ask me: Home Sweet Home. However, I include lots of things to the mix that are just for pleasure & fun, also my husband posts about music, sports, etc.. a little something for everyone!

How does your blog help the local blogging community?  One entire blog on the website is devoted to Denver (and surrounding areas) and travel. The travel includes day trips from Denver as well as weekend trips, out & about at nearby towns, hiking trails, etc. We also do local restaurant reviews, weekly happenings, festivals, spotlights on local businesses and boutiques, and plan to do more & more of any & all things Denver (and Colorado) related.

What are your hobbies and interests? Writing is a huge passion, I am an avid reader, love travel, thrift shopping, and hope to learn to ski now that we live in Colorado!

What do you do when you are not writing online?  The website takes a great deal of time (with four separate blogs to write), but when not doing that my husband and I are renovating a 100 plus year old bungalow from top to bottom ourselves, nicknamed *camp1899* We show all of our diy’s on the website… between the two.. we are very busy!!

Christian Toto ~ What Would Toto Watch?

December 8, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

We’re extremely pleased to welcome Christian Toto to our growing list of featured bloggers on DenverSpark.com. We invite you to visit Christian’s blog “What Would Toto Watch” for the latest and greatest box office film reviews.

Name: Christian Toto

Your company: self-employed freelance writer/blogger and film critic

Blog URL: www.whatwouldtotowatch.com

Where you live: Denver, CO

How long have you been blogging? Three years

What blogging platform do you use? WordPress

Do you blog for business? for pleasure? I blog because I love movies but also to brand myself as a film critic and writer. The site allows me to write every day and connect with an audience eager to let me know what they think about my posts. That give and take, i think, makes me a more intuitive writer.

How does your blog help the local blogging community? I’d love to have local movie bloggers contribute posts to my site. While WWTW is national in scope, I often draw upon Denver-based sources for information and promotion. I recently covered the Starz Denver Film Festival, for example, and I try to give exposure to local directors whose talents deserve a bigger platform. I also belong to the Front Range Bloggers Group where I share my experiences blogging with my peers.

What are your hobbies and interests? Movies, of course, plus baseball, dining out and reading.

What do you do when you are not writing online? I’m a stay-at-home Dad, so much of my time involves watching “Barney” and playing peek-a-boo with my 2-year-old son.

Allison Schultz ~ love.life.art.work.

November 17, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

DenverSpark.com is absolutely thrilled to introduce Allison Schultz, our latest featured blogger. We welcome you to review Allison’s profile to learn more about her and “love.life.art.work.”, our featured blog of the week.

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do…

Name: Allison Schultz, a.k.a. Alstar

Your company: Auspicious Projects, text+image w/ soul+savvy

Blog URL: www.lovelifeartwork.com

Where you live: Boulder, CO

How long have you been blogging? I officially started blogging — meaning on a real blog platform — on Midsummer’s Eve in June of 2008 with thekissinglessons.com. Long before that I’d been writing ‘blog-style’ on my old homegrown blog-page since 2005. (whew!) At desultoryandmellifluous.com, I have amassed a metric ton of content in ‘four seasons’ – or html pages – of unorthodox ‘blogging.’

What blogging platform do you use? I started on Blogger and moved to WordPress because that’s where the magic happens.

Do you blog for business? for pleasure? I wake up torn between wanting to enjoy my experience in the world and wanting to blog about it. My dream job has always been to be a professional blogger and to inspire people to really live at their edge – expanding to their fullest potential. I love to write about all the juicy insights I come across throughout the course of life and share that with the community at large.

How does your blog help the local blogging community? Love.Life.Art.Work. has grand visions of inspiring others to cultivate the creative – and to remember that we are all artists bringing our ideas to life into the world in ways that include the deepest desires of our hearts and the savviness of the uber-connected online spheres. Contributing to the shared voices online connects us to our humanness via story, and all via the magic of the internets – as if technology has become an extension of our very selves in a very big and powerful way by allowing us to connect with a wider network of people and places and accomplish amazing things together.

What are your hobbies and interests? Yoga, the mindful life, taking myself for long walks and hikes, artifying artifying artifying, anything with coconuts, manifesting cookies, permaculture, late night spontaneous guerrilla art missions, magic, the raw food scene, making collages out of the Patagonia catalogs, game nights and deep belly laughs, knitting felted things, naps, beauty in all its forms, the richness of life lessons learned in relationships, the notion that horses are human-whisperers, the fragmented lyrical poetry of ancient greece, and ‘enjoying myself and taking up space.’

What do you do when you are not writing online? By day, I do web development. By night and weekends, I paint and stoke my own creative inferno with the aforementioned hobbies and interests. In between all that, I help people bring their ideas to life through the medium of collage with my manifest sessions (themanifestsessions.com) and get their webside story and online presence all bright, shiny and in alignment with who-and-what-they-are and their work in the world. Sometimes I miss my couch, but not too often.

Will Price ~ The Momentum of Failure

October 1, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Proudly presenting Will Price, this weeks featured blogger here on DenverSpark.com. Check out Will’s profile below and we invite you to visit his featured blog sites.

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do…

Name: Will Price

Your company: I keep only the finest company.

Blog URL: themomentumoffailure.com / themomentumoffailure.tumblr.com

Where you live: Denver, CO

How long have you been blogging? 2-3 years on various blogs. The Momentum is my prime focus and is roughly a year and a half old.

What blogging platform do you use? WordPress and Tumblr

Do you blog for business? for pleasure? I mean business, and I take pleasure in it.

How does your blog help the local blogging community? Because I dabble in the lifestyle / men’s style side of things, it gives Denver a voice in that world where not many think one would exist. CHI, NYC, LA, etc are all grand places and style meccas, sure, but building a community for it in other places is beneficial to all.

What are your hobbies and interests? I enjoy a good shopping spree from time to time and doing some damage to my back account. I figure, you only get one go at this crazy little thing called life, so why not enjoy all the spoils, right? On top of that obsession, I enjoy a cold margarita on a hot Summer day as well as on a crisp Autumn night. Have a weakness for the concoction….

I like playing Jenga, too. On top of that demanding task, I enjoy making music, driving fast, cooking, eating at El Parral in Littleton (COlorado’s best Mexican food IMHO), and hanging out with my friends and family.

What do you do when you are not writing online? All of the above. Plus I like Sleeping and watching TV of DVD.Quite the exciting life I’m painting here…

Brett Borders ~ Online Reputation Edge

September 19, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Brett Borders is our latest featured blogger of the week here on DenverSpark.com. Check out Brett’s profile below and visit his blogs for more about Brett and his Online Reputation Edge.

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do…

Name: My name is Brett Borders.

Your company: Online Reputation Edge

Blog URL: http://onlinereputationedge.com

Where you live: I live in the Belmar area of Lakewood, CO. I moved here from Boulder this year and I am throughly enjoying the abundance of fun activities and diversity that Denver has to offer.

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging since 2005, when Tribe.net (an early Bay Area social networking site) rolled out blogging functionality. I blogged for fun, to entertain my friends and explore topics that fascinated me.  I set up my first self-hosted blog (as an experiment to make AdSense revenue) in 2006 and when my first blog post got ripped off and repackaged by a famous copywriter, I was hooked.  Getting some of my early posts onto the homepage of Digg, Delicious and Reddit was exhilarating – some of the greatest “digital buzz” I’ve ever experienced.

By 2007, blogging became a major part of my lifestyle and a way of generating business. I was working at a corporate job that didn’t enjoy very much, but after a year of blogging I was safely able to get enough leads and clients for my internet marketing consultancy, each month, to go out on my own.

What blogging platform do you use?

I got started with WordPress and I haven’t seen any reason to switch. It it is open source, has a great community of developers and third-party products, and it is very customizable. I’ve used TypePad for client projects, and it’s fine, but there are far fewer bells and whistles available – and it costs a bit to use it.

Do you blog for business? for pleasure?

I view creating new blog content as the most important part of making a living and getting my name out there. The internet is a very fast-paced, temporal place… and if you don’t have a digital “pulse” (by speaking, updating social media or blogging), then you are soon forgotten about. For me, blogging is all about my readers. I try to not waste time by blogging and writing about random things… I do research with Google’s External Keyword Tool about what topics people are searching for in my niche… and then I write the content that it looks like the internet is generally lacking in. I try to think of each post as “building equity” – something another blogger will want to link to (which will improve my site’s rankings), something that will earn me an RSS subscriber.. or something that will be of value to someone and draw in a future client, customer or partner.

How does your blog help the local blogging community?

You would be amazed at how many people and companies have online reputation problems and issues suddenly pop up out of nowhere. I want my blog to be the “light at the end of the tunnel” that gives them clarity and hope if they are having a problem or being attacked or impersonated online. I really hope Denver PR pros will find some valuable information. I also want to eventually show local bloggers and show them that if create good content people are really needing – they can quit their day job, or get their message all over the internet. Blogging is a great equalizer – you don’t have to know anyone, or be friends with anyone, or have any kind of credential – you just have to be creative and write stuff that interests people.

I have a side blog called Social Media Rockstar that has a lot of information on how to communicate better online and use social media more effectively. About a quarter of the posts I’ve written on there have gone viral – so hopefully Denver bloggers can get some ideas on how to create better quality web content that will be more popular on social media channels.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I love the outdoors. I dream about visiting remote and beautiful places. For me, the ‘holy trinity’ of sports are: snowboarding, mountain biking and surfing. I am grateful to live in Colorado be able to ride amazing bike trails — and even ride fresh powder — before sitting down at my desk to work.

What do you do when you are not writing online?

I’m an Asian cooking fanatic. I lived in Asia for 4 years and I had some incredible adventures there, and the food is the only part of the experience that I can fully recreate back here in the USA. I spend a lot of time growing herbs, driving to the ends of Denver Metro and shopping on eBay for obscure ingredients, roasting curry powders and grinding spice pastes by hand. Thai food is some of my favorite to cook… but I also highly recommend Sri Lankan and Malaysian cuisine as being just as exotic and tasty in their own unique ways.  There’s a truly great Sri Lankan restaurant in downtown Colorado Springs called “The Curry Leaf” if you ever want to try it.

I also like to travel, see live music and dance – and go to festivals. Recently, I went to the Burning Man art + fire festival in the Black Rock desert of Northern Nevada last month, and it gave me a lot of creative inspiration I intend to channel into my blogging work.
